Joshua Reaffirms on Controversial ‘Kill’ Remarks Directed at Paul
Anthony Joshua doubled down on his controversial remarks about wanting to “kill” his opponent during a press event in Miami on Wednesday.
These statements were originally stated on Tuesday when the boxer was questioned if he would show restraint against the social media star, responding that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.
Saturday's contest against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has sparked concern over safety concerns and the size difference between the two competitors.
Fury Labels AJ a “Classless Loser”
Ex- titleholder The Gypsy King labeled Anthony Joshua a “classless loser” for his inflammatory comments.
But Joshua, justified his position: “This is what I do, we fight. We have a license that permits extreme violence.
“I understand many people don't understand it but this is what my job is. I just enjoy what I do. Whatever happens, happens - as long as my hand is held high, that's what's paramount, with all due respect.”
He stated, “That's just the psychology we have to have as fighters. I'm unsure if other boxers think that way. Perhaps they're a bit more conservative. The way my mind works. When you're in the squared circle, it's a perilous thing. Everything can happen.”
“You pray your opponent exits the ring safely, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed aware you just did your job. It was not personal.”
Paul's Incendiary Retort
Paul, a massive underdog in the heavyweight contest as a career cruiserweight, was equally fiery in his retort.
“This is a modern day combat sport,” Paul declared. “I'm ready. I want his most powerful punches. I want there to be no excuses when it's all over. Let's kill each other.”
Joshua will face Paul, 28, at Florida's Kaseya Center in a bout many consider a significant mismatch, with some arguing it should have been sanctioned as an exhibition bout.

The peculiar nature of this bout has led to speculation about its authenticity, including claims that he may be restricted from knocking Paul out.
“There's nothing in the contract, AJ can confirm it. We're going to war,” Jake Paul said.
Joshua, sporting a expensive chain, jokingly added, “The only thing in the agreement that got my attention was the money.”
